2.3 Eyebrow Tinting

2.3.1 Overview

Tinting is perfectly safe for the eye area. The tint is a vegetable dye mixed with diluted peroxide. The tint is left on for anywhere from 5-7 minutes, depending on how dark you want your eyebrows.

2.3.2 Process

  1. The beautician obtains consent from the customer before commencing the service.

Beauticians ask customers whether they have any known allergies or have had any reactions in the past. Has the client had this procedure done in the past? Only once consent is given beauticians can commence the service.

 

  1. Selection of colour

Clients choose from brown, black, or the more dramatic ‘blue-black’ light brown, medium brown, and dark brown.

3. Application of Vaseline/petroleum jelly

The Beautician applies a protective cream, such as Vaseline/petroleum jelly around the eyebrow, which prevents the skin from getting stained.

4. Apply tint on brows.

Use a brush to apply the tint on the eyebrow. It helps to get a better application without touching the skin.

5. Leave the dye and wash it after some time.

Leave the tint on brows for at least 5 to 7 minutes for better results.

2.3.3 What Not to Do

  • Do not go out of the eyebrow shape.
  • Never leave the colour for more than 5 minutes.
  • Always stand by the client to check the colour so it doesn’t deepen because each customer is different. Some customers’ hair colour may change faster than others.

2.3.4 Eyelash Tinting

2.3.4.1 Overview

Eyelash tinting is the perfect, low-maintenance way to have beautifully natural yet dramatic lashes. Lash tinting avoids mascara smudging and running.

2.3.4.2 Process

  1. The beautician obtains consent from the customer before commencing the service.

Beauticians ask customers whether they have any known allergies or have had any reactions in the past. Has the client had this procedure done in the past? Only once consent is given beauticians can commence the service.

  1. Selection of colour first

Clients choose from brown, black, or the more dramatic ‘blue-black’ (that is the one I get; it is a very dark black). If client is a contact lens wearer, you remove the lens.

3.  Application of Vaseline/petroleum jelly

The beautician applies a protective cream, such as Vaseline or petroleum jelly, under the eyes, which prevents the skin from getting stained.

4. Use the cotton pad and apply tint.

Then a thin cotton pad shaped in a curve goes on top of the cream. The client must have her eyes shut, and the tint is applied to the lashes with a fine brush and allowed to sit for at least 10 minutes.

Position the client comfortably in a slightly elevated position. This will help prevent tints from running into their eyes.

6. Wash the dye with water

With the client’s eyes still shut, the beautician begins to remove the dye with a cotton pad dampened with water. This might take a few minutes of gentle strokes and several pads. When the excess dye has been removed, the client can open her eyes; the beautician cleans up the under-eye area and the lid with additional dampened pads if there is staining.

2.3.4.3 What Not to Do

  • While washing the tint never rub the eyes.
  • Even after the removal of the tint ask the client not to rub the eyes.
  • Do not take too much water as it will be hard for you to wash.
  • Do not use any hard paper or piece of cloth for the wash.

 

2.3.5 Eyebrow Henna Tinting

 

Henna tinting is a treatment that involves staining the skin and brow hair, but it is different from the usual eyebrow dye used during eyebrow tinting. Henna is a completely natural product that is rising in popularity in Australia as more people look for a natural alternative. However, always ask for the consent of the customer before beginning with the process of henna tinting.

 

1.3.5.1   Process

 

  1. Thoroughly cleanse Eyebrows

Clean eyebrows with an oil-free makeup remover. Even if the customer is not wearing any makeup, it is necessary to remove skin oil from the eyebrows. Use a cotton pad with alcohol to remove oil on the skin and eyebrows.

 

  1. Protect the skin around the Eyebrows

Use a skin protection cream or Vaseline around the area that you want to tint. This will prevent any unintentional stains on the skin. DO NOT apply any cream on the eyebrows as this will prevent the dye from sticking to the skin.

 

  1. Mix Henna Powder with Water

Add Henna powder into the Tint bowl. Then add water and mix it into a paste with thick consistency with no air bubbles and no lumps.

 

  1. Apply Henna Paste to Brows

Apply Henna Paste on eyebrows. Use a cotton bud to wipe off any excess residue that accidentally got on the skin around the eyebrows. You may also use eyebrow stencils to create a perfect brow shape.

 

Henna tinting can be quite intense, so DO NOT leave it on your eyebrows for too long. Leave the Henna Paste for 8-10 minutes on the eyebrows before removing it.

 

  1. Remove Henna Paste

To remove the Henna paste from your eyebrows, first, wipe your brows with a dry cotton pad. Then wipe with a wet cotton pad to remove any residue. If you accidentally stain areas around your eyebrows, try removing them with a ting remover as soon as possible.

 

  1. Henna After Care

For perfectly groomed eyebrows, gently apply nourishing oil to the eyebrow.
